Poetry in Motion

Transform your life with movement

The Rescape Process

I’m a father of two with over thirteen years of experience in movement and strength coaching, manual therapy, and creative direction. In that time, I’ve worked with over a thousand people and seen, consistently, how improving one’s relationship with the body can support meaningful change in energy, focus, and day-to-day life.

My work sits across strength development, movement practice, and general health. A consistent theme within it is the role of engagement—how we do or don’t physically meet life, and what that does to our capacity and outlook. At a minimum, it’s a worthwhile area to explore, if only for the effect it has on lifting the spirits.

Poetry in Motion is a structured process that combines physical practice with reflective writing. The aim is to help you develop a form of training that is both effective and personally meaningful—something you can understand, adapt, and sustain.

What is Poetry in Motion?

Poetry in Motion brings together strength training, movement practice, reflective writing, and stillness into a single process. It offers a way to explore how you physically engage with life—and the effect that has on your overall affect.

It’s open to anyone, from the inactive person to the professional athlete. The aim is simple: to notice your habits, and, where needed, begin to change them through practice rather than theory.

By varying the tone and quality of that practice—how you do what you do—you begin to see what suits you, what shifts you, and what builds your capacity. Preferences emerge, therapeutic effects follow, and your range, physically and mentally, expands.

When joint articulation and body loading are practiced with attention as a therapeutic or recovery enhancement, it can shift from corrective work into expressive, gradually forming a kind of body poetry — essentially moving well.

  • I first crossed paths with Robbie in 2019 and since then have been a regular attendee at various classes, online group coaching, workshops and for neuromuscular therapy.

I have always found Robbie’s teachings to be innovative, comprehensive, effective and above all, good craic. So, when I found myself stuck in a rut, Robbie’s one-to-one programme seemed like a good platform to kickstart from.

Tipping into the other side of forty, with a young kid at home, I had found myself exhausted, lacking energy and motivation, feeling aches and pains and not at home in my own skin. Surviving, not thriving.

I had an awareness starting into the programme that it was going to be a combination of physical exercise and self-reflection through writing practices and stillness. At a surface level, I was nodding to myself, thinking that the programme would be a reset of routine and mindset, that it would give me the tools to regain, essentially what I had “lost” through motherhood.

What transpired was a shift of consciousness, settling into a deeper knowing of myself and coming to, perhaps for the first time, a convivial friendship with body, mind and spirit.

Any initial preconceptions I had of working through a pre-prescribed programme of exercise where A+B=C, dissipated within the first one or two online sessions with Robbie. It was clear that he was not there to be a strict teacher, grading performance, ticking boxes and holding me accountable for action or inaction. Robbie was, throughout, a guide and a collaborator.

Yes, there were sequences of exercises and practices to follow but as time went on, these became prompts and doorways to discovery until I began to understand my own body and develop my own choreography.

For me, the written reflections throughout were ways of stripping back the “should, woulds and coulds” and old stories that can so often limit us in life. Discussions with Robbie around these reflections, helped me cut out the noise and gave me a clearer image of the here and now.

Taking away any preconceived notions and expectations left me with a more realistic and authentic platform from which to expand and explore what made me tick.

Robbie encouraged fun and freedom of expression. Through exploration of imagination, themes, beliefs and exercise, Robbie innately saw what made me light up and what dulled my shine. He steered me to meet myself and truly listen to what I wanted and needed in the here and now. Not what I thought was required of me by some immeasurable self-standard.

Having come to the completion of the (de)programme, I have realised that it was not the end. It was another beginning in the ongoing evolution of my being.

I have returned to writing poetry after a gap of nearly 20 years. I worry less about fitting in a “cardio session” and embrace jumping and dancing around the garden with my son. I lift stones, swing sticks and smile more than I did in any triathlon. I no longer “work out”. I no longer “train”. I play. I explore. I run. I swim. I create. I dance. I embrace the physicality of living. I have the craic!

This is not a “16 week guide to a better you”, flash in the pan, course. This is a build your own adventure story, where the ending is never set in stone and the journey continues as you expand within your own abilities and curiosities.

Robbie enables you with an initial template, where you take it after that, is limited only by your imagination

Underpinning the whole process with Robbie is the invitation to play, to stay courageously curious, to stay in a state of graceful exploration and ultimately, as John Moriarty put it, “walk beautifully on the earth”. Who wouldn’t want that?

It’s for you if…

  • You feel caught in a rut, moving but going nowhere.

  • You live in an aching body, unsure how to begin again.

  • You are tired, wired, and want to remember how to relax.

  • You feel cut off from joy, from play, from the craic that once felt natural.

  • You sense that your creativity is limping, and you want to find your style.

It’s for you if you desire…

  • A body that is strong, elastic, and alive.

  • A clear head, and the means to return to it.

  • Confidence, ease, and the feeling of being at home in yourself.

  • Connection — with your body, loved ones, and the work that matters.

  • Creative potency: ideas flowing, expression unblocked.

Especially if now you feel it is the time to:

  • Enhance personal strength — physically, mentally, and spiritually

  • Bring curiosity to reimagining life.

  • Form an enjoyable practice that deepens the bond with body and movement.

  • Take on clear, manageable learning tasks — with support along the way.

  • Step into a guided journey of peace, play, and motion.

  • “Last year I approached Robbie for a consultation call after seeing on his Instagram account that he was reaching out for one-on-one clients to work with. I spent 12 weeks working (playing) with Robbie and the experience was completely transformative.

I thought I would just be working on getting my fitness back, doing a few push-ups and completing boring sets of exercises I hated doing but had to grin and bear it. While the work I had seen from Robbie never looked boring or something to grin and bear, my own expectations of myself were that I needed to get stamina back, and it would, of course, be annoying and uncomfortable to do so. What became apparent instead from our very first session was that Robbie was there to listen to me. Listen to how I viewed my body, my relationship with exercise, how I experienced living and how I wanted to live well. Note all the “hows” and not the “whats”!

Robbie followed my needs, thoughts and ideals and together we found what truly mattered to me. And it wasn’t getting a 6 pack or learning to back-flip! We deconstructed my limiting beliefs of my body, relationship with exercise and turned our focus on things that made me joyful. Things that made me want to move, long-term.

Robbie would propose something every week for me to do, so there was offerings of movement, mobility, strength, cardio etc. But there was also asks for written reflections, that he would never read if I didn’t want him to, but that helped me hone-in on what I appreciated about my practice, and what I could leave behind.

It is a sad thing to realise that I have rarely been given the permission to choose how I live in this body. Robbie gave me the permission to claim full agency - to say no to everything he offered if I wanted. But I grabbed hold of almost everything he taught me, of course! Because he was listening

to me, and it was fun.

In my eyes, Robbie’s main gift to this world, is the permission and discerning ability to teach (or re-teach) Play. I am a very playful person, and this is good for my overall health from digestion, to mental health, to my nervous system, to energy levels. But it is hard to remain playful in a fast-paced world filled with stressors.

I leave 12 weeks with Robbie laden with games, playful approaches to movement and confidence in my unique lived experience. I leave him having only revealed the tip of the iceberg in terms of possibilities. I can work with his movement ideas towards a long-term future where I can keep trying, playing, discarding and deepening my practice confidently and with curiosity. Robbie gave me back to myself. Suffice to say, with deepest gratitude, I cannot recommend him enough.”

How the process unfolds

Programme Components

The Rescape process is built on three core components. Practised together, they form a coherent approach to developing capacity, awareness, and a more workable relationship with your body.

Over 16 weeks, we move through these strands in an exploratory way—guided, but not rigid, with room for a sense of play in how you approach the work.

1. Physical practice
Training the body across a broad spectrum:

  • Strength training to build capacity and resilience

  • Exploratory movement to expand options and awareness

  • Rehabilitative exercise to restore and support function

  • Joint articulation and mobility work for ongoing joint health

  • Rhythm and coordination drills to develop timing and control

2. Stillness practice
Developing the ability to regulate and settle. This is where you learn how to actively return yourself to a more balanced state.

3. Reflective writing
Using writing to track and clarify your experience. Prompts and short reflections help you recognise patterns, adjust your approach, and make sense of the work.

These components are supported by regular consultation calls, providing guidance, accountability, and space to adjust the process to suit you.

Taken together, this is a practical framework. At times it will challenge you, at times it will feel light, but its purpose is consistent—to build clarity, capacity, and a way of practising you can carry forward.

  • “For a comprehensive, easily digestible yet thought-provoking and thoroughly engaging way of connecting with the body and your mind - in relation to movement, well-being & space - I’d highly recommend working with Robbie as your movement coach/practitioner.
What I learned through questions that arose for me ‘how it moves, how I conceptualise myself & my movements in space relative to others, how I can continue a practice of staying connected to myself with curious exploration & within a boundary - yet still reach to achieve more - to know through a combination of sensory & scientific research and awareness - how best to grow and adapt well within myself, within a compassionate, supportive community & overtime’. Robbie is an expert at what he does with a fun-loving approach & attention to detail.
A movement artist that will inspire you to become your most able and empowered self. Blessed to have attended classes and workshops with Robbie since 2016. 💪10/10”
